Somnath was nominated in 2019. He was nominated on the basis of his seniority. However, Sivan’s tenure was extended by one year.
Dr. Somnath completed his college pre-degree at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. He studied engineering at T.K.M. From College of Engineering. He joined VSSC center in 1985. He completed his post graduation in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science.
He was appointed by the Ministry of Personnel. He will serve as the director of ISRO for three years. Dr. Somnath holds expertise in Structural Design, Launch Vehicle System Engineering, Structural Dynamics, Mechanism Design, Pyrotechnics.
