Uday Shankar has been named as the President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI – FICCI) for the year 2020-21. He will replace current president Sangeeta Reddy.
Shankar will hold office during the 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of FICCI to be held on December 11, December 12 and December 14, 2020. He will become the first media executive in India to head FICCI. FICCI is India’s oldest national industry chamber. He also serves as the vice president of FICCI.
Uday Shankar is currently serving as president of Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific, as well as serving as chairman of Star India and Walt Disney Company India. However, he will leave the post from December 31, 2020.
Uday Shankar started his career as a political correspondent with a major media organization -TOI in Patna.After a brief stint with this media group, he worked as an editor of Down to Earth, an environmental magazine in Delhi.
Shankar started his career in the TV industry as a news producer at ZEE TV, after which he also worked in other channels including Home TV, Sahara Sama and Aaj Tak.
However, he announced that, on October 8, 2020, he would be stepping down from his role as chairman of Disney company Asia Pacific and chairman of Star India and Disney India. This change of his work will be completed by 31 December 2020.
Prior to this, he served as the President of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF). He has also served as the chairman of FICCI’s Media and Entertainment Committee.
