AFCAT 1 2021 Notification: Indian Air Force (IAF) has officially declared the notification for AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) for 01/2021. Online applications are invited by the candidates for courses commencing in January 2022 for grant of Permanent Commission (PC) ad Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) and Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch.

UPDATE – (24 December 2020)
The official notice reads, “IAF has released additional vacancies for women candidates in ground duty (non-tech) branches i.e. admin, logistics and accounts branch. All women candidates eligible for ground duty n-tech branches who were unable to register earlier can now register for adm, lgs and accts branch. Registration date has been extended till January 11, 2021.”
All those candidates who have already applied for the exam will be allowed to add or modify their preference of branch from January 18 to January 21, 2021.
Also, as per the revised vacancies notice, the number of vacancies has increased to 244. Two seats are reserved from Ground Duty (Non- Tech) vacancies for law qualified candidates.

AFCAT Types Of Commission
PERMANENT COMMISSION (PC) (For Men)- A Permanent Commission means a career in the Air Force till you retire. Permanent Commission Officers continue to serve till the age of superannuation.
SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (SSC) (For Men & Women) –A Short Service Commission means a limited period career in the Air Force. You can join the IAF as a Short Service Commission Officer by opting for a SSC Course through AFCAT / MET Entry / NCC Special Entry.
Tenure
- For Flying Branch:- Fourteen years from the date of commissioning (Non-extendable).
- For Ground Duty (Technical & Non-technical):- Ten years from the date of commissioning. An extension of four years may be granted subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, suitability, merit and willingness.
