In other words, non-commission officer (also known as NCO) is a soldier with specific skills, military policing, recruitment, management etc. While commissioned officers are referred to as the ‘brain’ being the leaders whereas non-commissioned officers are referred to as the backbone of the Indian Armed Forces.
Non commissioned are recruited through Army, AF, Navy recruitment centres starting with the rank of Sepoy and its equivalent in AF & Navy whereas Commissioned officers are selected through SSB starting with the rank of Lieutenant and its equivalent in AF & Navy.
