Describing the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme as historic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the ex-servicemen on completing its five years.
The PM tweeted on Tuesday, “five years ago on this day, India had taken a historic step towards ensuring the well-being of its great soldiers defending the country bravely. Completing five years of OROP is a significant opportunity. India had been waiting for this plan for decades. I salute my ex-servicemen for superb service.”
Modi also shared important points released by the Ministry of Defense regarding the decision. According to the ministry, since the implementation of the scheme, the government has disbursed Rs 42700 crore to 20.6 lakh ex-servicemen and their families.
The ministry said, the annual recurring expenditure in OROP account is about Rs 7,123 crore and the total recurring expenditure in about six years is about Rs 42,740 crore.
