The Swachhagraha campaign is inspired by the world’s largest and most effective mass movement ‘Satyagraha’. The aim of this campaign is to develop a sustainable culture of cleanliness. This campaign promotes the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by encouraging young citizens to actively participate and develop youth leaders.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management across the country.
The first phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission lasted till October 2019. The objectives of the first phase include behavioral change and creating awareness about hygiene practices, eradication of manual scavenging and capacity building at the local level.
Phase II is being implemented to consolidate the work of Phase I between 2020 and 2025. The second phase of this mission also aims to improve solid and liquid waste management, maintain open defecation free status and improve the lives of sanitation workers.
