Armed Forces Personnel Died Due to Covid : The Central Government said on Monday that a total of 190 Armed Forces personnel have died across the country due to corona infection. The highest number of 137 personnel died in the Army. Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question that 49 Air Force personnel and four Navy personnel have died due to the spread of corona infection in the country.

Responding to a question, the Minister of State for Defense said that there were a total of 45,576 cases of corona infection in the Army, out of which 14,022 in the Air Force and 7,747 in the Navy. Bhatt said that 1,311 members of the families of Army personnel, 114 members of the families of Air Force personnel and 66 members of the families of Navy personnel died due to this epidemic. During this, 276 civilians of the Army in military hospitals also died due to corona epidemic. The minister said that 13,010 cases of infection of family members of Army personnel were reported, while the number of relatives of Air Force personnel affected was 7,380.

As per available information, a total of 2,211 members from the family of Indian Navy personnel were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. He further said, ‘As per the rules, no compensation is given for the deaths due to infectious disease and they did not get it even while all of them were still serving their service.’ According to the information given by the Union Health Ministry this morning, in 24 hours, 8,309 new Kovid cases were reported in India, while 236 infected people died. During this 9,905 people were cured of corona infection. At present, the number of active cases in the country is 1,03,859 (lowest in the last 544 days).

At the end of 2019, the first case of corona infection was reported in Wuhan city of China. But within two-three months, this deadly infection spread all over the world and the World Health Organization declared it a pandemic on 11 March 2020.
