Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta to take charge of Fire and Fury Corps in Ladakh amid standoff with China

Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta will be the new Commander of the Army Northern Command’s Fire and Fury Corps in Ladakh amid the standoff with China in Ladakh. He will take over by the end of this month. Sengupta will succeed Lt Gen PGK Menon, who is completing his tenure of over a year and has on several occasions represented India in talks with China to resolve the standoff in eastern Ladakh.

According to sources, Lt Gen Sengupta will take over as the next commander of the Fire and Fury Corps and will also lead the Indian side in the next round of talks with China. Due to the sensitive nature of the corps, which guards both the Chinese and Pakistani borders, the new corps commander will spend around 15 days with Menon to understand every aspect and issues in that area.

The responsibility of the Siachen region also rests on the shoulders of this corps, which for three decades is considered the highest and coldest war zone in the world. Let us inform that India and China have been in a state of military standoff for almost two years over the border dispute. According to media reports, China has deployed more than 60,000 troops in its areas bordering India and is rapidly building infrastructure.

In view of the antics of China, troops and weapons have also been deployed in its territory from India. Lt Gen Sengupta is currently posted at the Army Headquarters. Before joining the Army Headquarters, he had served in the Punjab Regiment and commanded the Anti-Terrorist Force in the Kashmir Valley.
