Indian Coast Guard rescued seven fishermen from a sinking boat near Vanakbara Beach in Diu. This was informed in an official statement released on Tuesday. There was some fault in the fishing boat and it was stuck in the sea near the beach. On receiving information from the Diu administration at 8 pm on Monday night, the Coast Guard deployed an indigenously made ‘Advanced and Light Helicopter’ from Porbandar for this rescue operation.
In cold weather and darkness, rescue operations were started at Vanakbara Beach, which is located 175 km from Porbandar. The statement said that despite the thick darkness and all the difficulties in the sea, skilled pilots completed the rescue operation within an hour of the aircraft launch from Porbandar and all the seven fishermen were rescued safely. All seven crew members were airlifted to a safe place, the statement said.
At the same time, before this, a major accident took place in Jorhat of Assam on 8 September, when two boats carrying 120 passengers collided on the Brahmaputra river. Two people had died in this accident.
