After the completion of 26 years of the service, 5 women officers have been promoted to the Colonel Rank. This is the first time that women officers have been approved in the post of Colonel while living in the service with Core of Signal, Core of Electronic and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and Core of Engineers. First, the promotion of Colonel was only applicable to women officials in Army Medical Corps (AMC), Judge Advocate General (JAG) and Army Education Corps (AEC)
The extension of the promotion in more branches of the Indian Army (INIDIAN ARMY) is a sign of growing opportunities for career for women officials. With the decision to give permanent commission to women officers from most of the Indian Army, this step defines the Indian Army’s approach towards a gender-neutral army.
In the five women officials selected for Colonel Time Scale Rank – Lieutenant Colonel Sangeta Saradana, Lieutenant Colonel Sonia Anand and Lieutenant Colonel Navneet Duggal and Lieutenant Colonel Richa Khanna and Engineers from Lieutenant Colonel Richa Sea.
