Poonch Terrorist Encounter : Five jawans including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were martyred today during an encounter with terrorists at Soorankot in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. There was news of three terrorists hiding in this area. After that this encounter started. Encounter is still on. According to news agency PTI, a Defense Department spokesman said that after receiving information about the presence of terrorists, an operation was launched early in the morning in a village near DKG in Surankote.
Defense Department PRO said- Based on intelligence inputs, a siege was carried out by the army in the morning near villages in Soorankot area of Poonch district. During the anti-terror operation, five soldiers including a JCO were injured in Poonch. All of them were admitted to the nearest health center. But, he died. Officials said that there were reports of terrorists with heavy weapons crossing the Line of Control and hiding in the forest of Charmer. Additional forces have been sent to the spot, so that all the exit routes of the terrorists can be closed. Significantly, the operation is being carried out by the security forces against the terrorists.

Earlier, two terrorists were killed and a policeman was injured in encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag and Bandipora districts on Monday. A police official said that after receiving information about the presence of terrorists, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Khagund in Verinag area of Anantnag district. The operation turned into an encounter as the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. The force also gave a befitting reply to the firing.
He said that a terrorist was killed in the encounter, while a policeman was injured. The campaign is still on. The second encounter took place at Gundjahangir in Hajin area of Bandipora district, where a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed, he said. Kashmir Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar tweeted, “The slain terrorist has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Dar of banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (TRF). He was involved in the recent murder of a civilian in Shahgund Bandipora.
