BSNL Launches Satellite Based IoT Network

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has recently launched the Satellite-based Internet of Things equipment service. Because of this, the phone can be installed from any place within the maritime boundary of the country, where there is not even a mobile tower.

It has been launched in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India. It started with fishermen, farmers, construction, mining and logistics enterprises. With this solution, connectivity will now be ensured for millions of unconnected machines, sensors and industrial IoT devices in India.

In a statement issued by BSNL, it has been said that this is the world’s first satellite-based IoT network. The service has been launched in partnership with Skylo of America. Skylo has prepared these devices for use in India.

BSNL Chairman and Managing Director P.K. Purwar said that only this government company will make Skylo’s equipment available. Each unit of it costs Rs 10,000. Customers can take this square-shaped device anywhere across the country and connect to their smartphones and do communication.

He said that Skilo will also assist in providing vital data to the logistics sector for effective delivery of Kovid-19 vaccine in 2021. Physical support for the logistics sector exists under the infrastructure sector.

This new ‘Made in India’ solution, developed indigenously by SkyLo. It will be connected to satellite ground infrastructure of BSNL and will provide pan-India coverage including Indian seas. This coverage will be so vast that with its help, it will cover the Indian maritime border from Kashmir and Ladakh to Kanyakumari within the Indian border and from Gujarat to the northeast.
