Difference Between X & Y Group: Indian Air Force Recruit Candidates for their different trades divided as technical-needed to maintain various technical items or machines of Indian Air Force and Non- technical for providing support services to keep these machines well and active. The technical trade is also termed as ‘X’ group and Non-technical as ‘Y’ group. These X & Y group candidates are called Airmen or PBOR i.e. Persons below officer rank.
Male candidates of Science stream in Class 12th i.e. Physics and Mathematics can apply for X group and Male candidates of any stream in 12th class can apply for Y group examination of Indian Air Force.
Besides this difference of being Technical Trade and Non-Technical Trade, X & Y group differentiate with each other in many other aspects. In this article, we are going to provide you those aspects on which these two trades differ from each other.
DIFFERENCE IN JOB ROLES :
Group X – Trades and Tasks: Group X receives Technical training like Radar, Engine, Electrical, Airframe, etc. The candidates of the X group have the main task of being technically sound enough to rectify the fault of the equipment on which they work. A lot of courses are conducted for a shorter/longer duration to get familiar with the new equipment and for its smooth functioning. Work areas of X groups are mostly open spaces, tarmacs, hangers, and nature-friendly places. They may be called upon anytime if needed, mostly X group candidates don’t have fixed morning working hours and they use to maintain shift working hours to perform their duties.
Automobile Fitter:
In this trade, the candidate is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all types of light and heavy-duty mechanical vehicles, cranes and loading equipment, etc.
Electronics Fitter:
An Electronics Fitter operates and maintains Radar, Voice & Data transmission, and reception equipment mounted on airborne weapon delivery systems and ground-based air defence systems.
Electrical Fitter:
An Electric Fitter maintains the power supply system of the latest types of aircraft, airborne missiles, and associated ground systems.
Mechanical System Fitter:
He repairs and maintains mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems of airborne missiles, engines, automobiles, and aircraft fuelling equipment.
Structures Fitter:
As Structure Fitter, a candidate is responsible for the maintenance and servicing of airframes and their accessories, components, and controls of aircraft. He is also be assigned the responsibility of marshaling, parking, picketing, and ground handling of aircraft.
Propulsion Fitter:
In this trade, a candidate will repair, maintain, and prepare for the use of the propulsion system of aircraft and other airborne weapon delivery systems.
Workshop Fitter (Smith):
He will undertake major structural repairs of all aircraft at central repair facilities.
Workshop Fitter (Mechanical):
He will undertake repair and maintenance work of mechanical nature. He will be trained in workshop trade and practices.
Weapon Fitter:
In this trade, a candidate will prepare, maintain and service armaments, ammunition, and safety equipment of aircraft, missiles, and other weapon delivery systems.
Group Y – Trades and Tasks:
Y group receives a Non-technical training like Medical assistant, Security section, Police, Musician, etc. They always perform/deal with administrative, discipline, welfare, and paper works. Very few or selected courses are being conducted A well-furnished offices are occupied for better working conditions and the best output therein. They get an opportunity to have fixed working hours.
Admin Assistant:
As an Admin Assistant, a candidate will maintain and analyze records, files, and information of personnel. He also manages ration supplies and messes.
Accounts Assistant:
Accounts Assistant records and manages to account for pay and allowances, equipment, logistics transactions, public fund, and cash flow, etc.
Medical Assistant:
He will be made familiar with nursing & first-aid and also involved in the management of medical stores, dispensaries, and ward supervision.
Logistics Assistant:
A Logistics Assistant is involved in the procurement, storage, and handling of inventory control as well as accounting of military stores.
Environment Support Services Assistant (ESSA):
This job involves maintenance of the fire fighting section. It also requires that a candidate ensure the upkeep of hygiene of the Air Force Campus.
Ops Assistant:
As an Ops Assistant, a candidate will operate various systems of Air Traffic Control Centre, Air Field, and Air Defence System. He will be trained in the operation of Radars, Display Units, etc.
Meteorological Assistant:
A Meteorological Assistant gets training to undertake weather observation and to maintain meteorological instruments.
Ground Training Assistant:
A Ground Training Instructor will train personnel on drill, parade, handling of arms, and physical exercise.
Indian Air Force (Police):
Indian Air Force (Police) is responsible for assuming police duties and the investigation of offenses. He is in charge of the maintenance of security.
Indian Air Force (Security):
An Indian Air Force (Security) tradesman, undertake special operations and carry out high-level security operations.
Musician:
A Musician is a part of the Air Force Band. He will get training to play different musical instruments.
DIFFERENCE IN PAY STRUCTURE:
During training, both the groups get a stipend of Rs. 14,600/- per month. On completion of training the pay they get is as follows:
Group X – Technical: Rs. 33,100 per month + DA (as applicable) which, in subsequent years, may rise as per the career progression of the individual.
X groups have privileges to have technical pay and allowances apart from the pay scale/structure.
Group Y – Non -Technical: Rs. 26,900 per month + DA (as applicable) which, in subsequent years, may rise as per the career progression of the individual
Y groups have a limit to their pay scales/pay structures.
OTHER BENEFITS:
Group X – Technical: X groups also have privileges to get their place of posting as per their systems in which they get training for smooth functioning. They get more opportunities to have foreign tours/postings.
Group Y – Non -Technical: Y groups can have posted to any place in India without any Bar/Restrictions. They find less Opportunities to get foreign tour/postings.
In addition to salary both get some other benefits as well:
